Job Description

A truly once in a career opportunity to support the next phase of the reimagination of Castlefield Viaduct into an iconic sky park destination, green infrastructure corridor and active travel route. This role is a new post which will grow as the project develops so need someone who is able to run with the fluidity of the project and comfortable with a range of different stakeholders.

For several years, local people and organisations in the community have been passionate about finding a future for Castlefield Viaduct which has lay derelict since 1969. Working with partners the National Trust opened the viaduct to the public as a temporary park in the summer of 2022. This initial ‘Phase One’ is set to remain open until 2024 - https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/castlefield-viaduct

As the Senior Project Coordinator for Phase Two, you'll support the planning for the next bigger, bolder phase of works through design development, planning approval and construction, building on feedback and lessons learnt from Phase One. Castlefield Viaduct is a key part of the wider Greater Manchester Urban Plan. You'll also co-ordinate some elements of the wider plan, supporting the ambition to address unequal access to nature, beauty and history for everyone, for ever.

We will hold interviews for this role on Friday 9th June and/or Wednesday 14th June as needed.

We understand the value of this role and may be able to negotiate a little on salary.

You'll be expected to work in Manchester for at least three days a week onsite, in the office or meeting partners. Beyond this you will have the option to work flexibly.

What you'll be doing:You'll be line managed by the Castlefield Viaduct Project Manager. In this role you'll provide high-quality project support, coordinating all elements of Phase Two of the project from the initial concept stage through to construction, working to a highly engaged project board. To achieve this successfully you'll be supported by an internal consultancy, external consultants and specialist network within the National Trust. You'll maintain the project programme, organise the project board and lead on project communications.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support with obtaining planning permission and other approval processes
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders
  • Coordinating project timelines
  • Coordination of specialist external services
  • Raising purchase orders and managing payments
  • Supporting with procurement and procurement contracts.

  • Practical experience of providing project management support and advice for a range of complex projects, ideally urban, green infrastructure
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills, and attention to detail
  • Strong influential communication and presentation skills across range of stakeholders
  • Knowledge of budgets, finances, procurement of external services and commercial/contractual agreements.
